The Federal Government, through NABTEB, has begun a significant review of 26 technical and vocational education courses to improve skills and support Nigeria’s economic growth.
The review brings together education regulators, technical college principals, curriculum experts, and industry stakeholders to make sure graduates have the right skills for jobs at home and abroad. NABTEB Registrar, Dr. Mohammed Aminu, described the exercise as a landmark reform aimed at making technical and vocational education a strong driver of national development.
Some of the courses being updated include Robotics, Coding, Machine Learning, Smart Agriculture, Solar PV Installations, Automotive Mechatronics, Cinematography, Hospitality, and Beauty Therapy. According to the federal government, the focus is on new technologies, traditional trades, and sustainable practices, showing Nigeria’s push for technological independence and green growth.
In the view of Dr. Mohammed, the decision to collaborate with NBTE and industry stakeholders is strategic as it will make the new syllabuses meet both local manpower needs and global standards, as well as position technical education as a veritable tool to drive economic progress.
