The Federal Government has launched an automotive training centre at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Ikorodu, to advance local vehicle production and prepare Nigeria for the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs).
Minister of State for Industry, John Owan Enoh, stated that the initiative aligns with the government’s automotive policy, which aims to create jobs, enhance skills, and increase local content to 40 per cent while ensuring that 30 per cent of vehicles used in Nigeria are electric.
The project is being implemented by the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. NADDC Director-General, Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, said 23 such centres are being constructed across the country to drive innovation and strengthen the automotive value chain.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Morenikeji Azeez, stated that the facility would enhance technical training and boost the local automotive industry.
NADDC Board Chairman, Emma Eneukwu, described the centre as a hub for research and training on emerging technologies, including EVs and compressed natural gas (CNG) conversions.
The Ikorodu facility is expected to position Lagos as a hub for automotive skills and innovation.
