Four academics from the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) have been ranked among the world’s top 2% scientists for 2025, according to the annual assessment by the Top Scientists Network (TopSciNet). The ranking evaluates researchers based on citations, publication impact, and contributions to their respective fields.
Leading the group is Professor Olayide Samuel Lawal, who placed 49,613th globally, while Dr Adeolu Adesoji Adediran ranked 181,175th. Two other FUOYE scholars also featured, highlighting the growing visibility of research from the young university.
The inclusion of FUOYE researchers in the international ranking reflects broader trends in Nigerian higher education, where local universities are increasingly producing work recognised globally despite limited resources. Academic experts say such rankings help benchmark research quality, attract collaborations, and raise the profile of Nigerian institutions.
TopSciNet assesses millions of researchers worldwide using metrics such as citation data, h-index scores, and field-adjusted impact. FUOYE officials stated that the recognition signifies the university’s progress in establishing a research culture, but also noted that sustaining this momentum requires continued investment in infrastructure, training, and research funding.
The development marks another milestone for FUOYE as it seeks to strengthen its reputation in the competitive global academic landscape.
