FUL Signs MOU to Establish PGD in Data Protection

Federal University of Lokoja Signs MOU with Association of Licensed Data Protection Compliance Organisations of Nigeria

The Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Association of Licensed Data Protection Compliance Organisations of Nigeria (ALDAPCON) and Hanzumana-Asheazi-Tebe-Tebe Consulting & Investments Ltd (HATCIL) to establish a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Data Protection, the first of its kind in Nigeria and Africa.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed on Monday, September 29, 2025, during the Principal Officers Committee meeting chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Olayemi Akinwumi. The collaboration aims to build professional capacity, strengthen academic-industry synergy, and create career pathways in the growing field of data protection and privacy.

According to Prof M. A. Ibrahim, Director of the Centre for Distance and E-learning, the partnership reflects a shared vision to promote digital trust and train a new generation of data protection professionals. He explained that the programme would run through flexible online and part-time modes, targeting at least 5,000 civil servants and private-sector personnel annually. He emphasised that FUL would serve as the academic anchor, ensuring quality assurance and nationwide reach through its accredited e-learning platform. ALDAPCON will provide expert industry input and align the curriculum with global best practices. At the same time, HATCIL, under the leadership of Prof Yakubu Aboki Ochefu, will drive curriculum innovation and stakeholder engagement.
