FUNAAB Traders Excited as School Resumes Soon

Business owners around the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) say they are eager for the return of students as the 2025/2026 academic session begins at the end of the month.

Many traders and service providers say sales have dropped sharply since students left after their second semester examinations two months ago. Taxi driver Mufutau Osilaja said the transport business has been slow, while food vendor Funmilola Bamgbola complained of poor sales, noting that students are her main customers.

Shop owner Segun Adeniji, known as SP Ventures, said about 80% of the area’s economy depends on students. “When they are around, business is completely different,” he said.

The university management has assured that ongoing rehabilitation projects will make the campus more vibrant when classes resume, boosting both academic activities and the local economy for those who depend on student patronage.
