FUNAAB VC Calls for Improvement in Agriculture

Prof. Tunde Kehinde, the VC of FUNAAB

Prof. Tunde Kehinde, the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State, has called for the exploration of biotechnology tools to boost agricultural productivity and food security in the country.

The Vice-Chancellor made the call during the two-day workshop and stakeholders’ meeting to review and validate the National Biotechnology Policy.

According to him, everyone in the agricultural sector should identify and leverage opportunities for biotechnology tools to boost output.

He said, “Agricultural biotechnology can enhance production in terms of yield per hectare, and biotechnology should play a significant role in the whole agricultural value chain, including processing and storage, among others.”
Kehinde emphasised that using biotechnology tools goes beyond boosting crop yields and also involves sustainability, which reduces carbon footprints and improves soil health.
