Dr Sola Balogun, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre and Media Arts at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), has been recognised as an outstanding Arts and Culture Icon by the Committee for Relevant Art (CORA) during the 2025 Lagos Book and Arts Festival (LABAF).
The ceremony, held at Freedom Park, Lagos Island, celebrated distinguished Nigerian artists, scholars, and cultural workers. Other honorees included filmmaker Tunde Kelani, comedian Ali Baba, journalist Dr Reuben Abati and Dr Tunde Adegbola of the University of Ibadan. The event featured drama presentations, musical performances, and dance displays.
CORA founder Toyin Akinosho said the awards aim to recognise notable Nigerians whose careers have significantly promoted and developed the country’s arts and culture.
Programme Chair Jahman Anikulapo added that the ceremony also honours “silent but impactful contributors” to the sector.
Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, FUOYE’s Vice-Chancellor, congratulated Dr Balogun, describing the recognition as a testament to the university’s strong pool of intellectuals and scholars who contribute to national development.
