Heirs Insurance Group, Nigeria’s fastest-growing insurance company, has kicked off the fourth edition of its annual Essay Championship, opening applications to Junior Secondary School students across the country.
This year’s competition offers a total prize pool of ₦10.5 million, aimed at boosting educational development and promoting early insurance awareness among young Nigerians.
According to the organisers, the grand prize winner will walk away with a ₦5 million scholarship, while their school receives a ₦1 million educational grant. The first and second runners-up will earn ₦2 million and ₦1 million scholarships, respectively.
In a bid to deepen students’ understanding of Insurance, this year’s edition also features insurance-themed quizzes and essay topics, reinforcing the importance of financial literacy and risk awareness from a young age.
Heirs Insurance Group says the initiative is part of its commitment to education, youth empowerment, and long-term national development.
To participate, students must submit original essays of not more than 500 words on the topic: “The Role of Insurance in Keeping Families Safe and Secure” via the website Essay Championship – Heirs Insurance Group Essay Championship.
Submissions are open from May 27 to July 8, 2025. All entries will be evaluated by renowned academics, with a quality assurance process conducted by Deloitte and Touche to ensure transparency and fairness.
In a significant expansion of the initiative, the 2025 edition introduces the Teachers’ Insurance Awareness Prize – a new category designed to recognise and reward teachers who actively promote insurance education within schools and communities.
For the Teachers’ Insurance Awareness Prize (TIAP), the top teacher will receive a ₦1 million cash prize, with an additional ₦500,000 grant awarded to their school. To qualify, teachers must implement an insurance awareness project and provide evidence of their initiative and its impact.
