IAR of Ahmadu Bello University, visited its Adopted Villages to assess banana plantations
On December 7, 2025, the Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR) at Ahmadu Bello University visited its Adopted Villages, Dutsan Abba, Marwa, and Yakasai, to assess banana plantations established with the Institute’s support. The visit was led by Executive Director Prof. Ado Yusuf, represented by Assistant Director Prof. A.I. Sharifai, alongside the IAR Adopted Village Unit.
The team lauded the remarkable growth and productivity of banana suckers donated in December 2024, developed using IAR’s tissue culture technology. Many plantations are already fruiting, with farmers harvesting their first yields.
The management praised farmers for their dedication and commended Dr H.O. Yusuf, Head of the Adopted Village Unit, for her leadership in ensuring the initiative’s success.
The visit underscored IAR’s commitment to rural development, sustainable agriculture, and improving livelihoods through practical interventions, mentorship, and continuous support.
Both farmers and management celebrated the milestone as a demonstration of the impact of research-driven agriculture in strengthening communities.
