Ibadan North Local Government has begun distributing educational materials worth millions of naira to 73 public primary schools to improve learning conditions and support pupils.
The initiative includes 800 desks and chairs, 300 school bags, 200 pairs of sandals, and packs of chalk and board markers.
Chairman of the Council, Seun Olufade, said the intervention was aimed at creating a better learning environment and easing the financial burden on parents. He commended Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for supporting efforts to strengthen basic education.
Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Nureni Adeniran, described the gesture as a significant step towards ending the “no-seat” challenge in public schools.
“With this arrangement, no school will get fewer than 10 benches and desks. This will go a long way to assist teaching and learning,” Adeniran said.
He urged teachers to ensure transparent use of the materials. Special Adviser to the Governor on Education Intervention, Suraj Tiamiyu, also hailed the project as a reflection of the government’s continued prioritisation of education across Oyo State.
