Cyril Ndifon, suspended Dean of Law at the University of Calabar (UNICAL)
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has described the conviction of Cyril Ndifon, suspended Dean of Law at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), as a landmark in Nigeria’s fight against corruption and sexual abuse.
Ndifon was sentenced by the Federal High Court, Abuja, to five years in prison without an option of a fine for coercing a student, identified as Miss TKJ, into sending nude images and performing sexual acts in exchange for admission. The court described him as a “sexual predator” who showed no remorse.
ICPC spokesperson John Okor Odey highlighted that Ndifon groomed the student under the guise of mentorship, escalating to digital and physical abuse. Forensic analysis of his devices corroborated the victim’s testimony, which the court found credible.
The case followed campus protests and petitions to the ICPC, leading to Ndifon’s arrest after he ignored official invitations. The second defendant, Barrister Sunny Anyanwu, was acquitted due to insufficient evidence.
Odey said the conviction sends a strong message that the rule of law applies regardless of position and reinforces protections for students. He commended the victim’s courage, stressing that such outcomes encourage reporting and accountability in educational institutions.
