The Imo State government has begun the construction of 105 new primary and secondary school buildings across its 27 local government areas.
A statement by the governor’s special adviser on public enlightenment, Prince Eze Ugochukwu, said the initiative marks the first phase of a broader programme to upgrade education in the state.
The project, led by the Imo State Universal Basic Education Board, aims to reduce classroom shortages and improve learning conditions. Contractors have been instructed to meet a six-month completion target.
“The work, which includes modern classrooms, is progressing at different paces across multiple sites, with contractors committing to efficient delivery,” the statement said.
Alongside the construction, the government has begun recruiting teachers for schools across the 27 local councils. Commissioner for Primary and Secondary Education, Prof. B. T. O. Ikegwuoha, urged shortlisted candidates to verify their names with the education secretaries in their local councils and proceed to the next stage of the process.
Governor Hope Uzodimma has described the initiative as central to his vision of making education more accessible and improving standards in the state.
