The Sultan Maccido Institute of Leadership at the Peace and Development Centre, Yakubu Gowon University, has honoured Deputy Commissioner of Police and academic, Dr Akeem Adedeji, for his scholarly contributions to academic development.
Adedeji, who has been lecturing pro bono at the university for five years, was recognised for donating books to the institution’s library and for mentoring students. Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Matthew Adamu described him as a role model, noting that giving back to society extends beyond financial contributions and encompasses intellectual service.
The institute also honoured retired Major General Bola Koleoso for his dedication to nation-building. Director of the centre, Professor Mohammed Yelwa, praised both recipients for enriching the university’s programmes.
Responding, Adedeji said his efforts were driven by passion and a commitment to human development, rather than by reward. A prolific scholar, he holds a PhD in Law and multiple Master’s degrees, and has authored over 30 books and 40 academic papers.
The university stated that the recognition highlighted the significance of selfless service and intellectual dedication in promoting national development.
