Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has congratulated the Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, on earning his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.
In a statement from London, where the governor was present, Yusuf described the former Central Bank governor as an “icon of excellence” and a role model for future generations. He praised Sanusi’s thesis, noting its recognition by the University of London as a source of pride for Kano State and Nigeria.
The governor highlighted Sanusi’s lifelong contributions to scholarship, economic thought, family reform, and social justice advocacy, describing him as a moral compass whose work inspires millions. Yusuf also prayed for the Emir’s continued health, wisdom, and long life.
Separately, Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to education, announcing plans to partner with the University of London to strengthen Kano’s Northwest University. The collaboration will focus on research, faculty development, and raising academic standards to compete with leading global institutions.
He said education remains a central pillar of Kano’s development strategy, emphasising the state government’s dedication to fostering learning and innovation across the region.
The Emir’s PhD marks another milestone in his distinguished career as a scholar, reformer, and leader, reinforcing his influence both within Nigeria and internationally.
