The Kano State Government has approved the recruitment of additional mathematics teachers for deployment across secondary schools in the state.
The State Commissioner for Education, Dr Ali Makoda, announced the decision during the distribution of admission letters to Senior Secondary School One (SS1) students at Maryam Aloma Girls’ Secondary School in Kano.
Makoda said the initiative is aimed at addressing the shortage of qualified mathematics teachers, adding that it aligns with the government’s commitment to providing free and quality education.
He highlighted ongoing reforms under Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration, including teacher recruitment, school renovations, and the provision of learning materials. He attributed Kano’s emergence as the top-performing state in the 2025 NECO examinations to these reforms.
“The governor is working tirelessly to ensure that the right steps are taken to strengthen education in Kano,” he said, noting that the fresh recruitment drive would ensure schools are adequately staffed. Makoda also urged parents to support the government’s efforts by enrolling their children in school.
