Katsina Governor, Senator Urge Greater Investment in Children’s Future

Katsina State Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda

Katsina State Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda congratulated children across the state on the occasion of the 2025 Children’s Day celebration.

In a statement marking the event, Governor Radda emphasised the importance of sustained investment in children’s education, health, and overall development. He highlighted key initiatives undertaken by his administration to support young people across the state.

“You are not just the leaders of tomorrow – you are the pride of today. My administration will continue to invest in your education, health, and overall development because we believe in your limitless potential to transform our state and nation,” the governor stated.

He cited progress made in promoting girls’ education through the Girl Education Development Initiative, which has provided learning materials to thousands of female students. Other initiatives mentioned include a successful measles vaccination campaign, conditional cash transfers to girls, and financial support for the UNICEF Nutrition Programme.

Despite the celebrations, some parents expressed concern over the prevailing economic hardship, questioning the relevance of the occasion amid growing poverty.

“What is there to celebrate when our children are dying of hunger; we have no money to feed them? They are jobless, and that is what is pulling them into committing crimes,” said Malam Yusuf Abari, a parent.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Labour, Employment and Productivity, Senator Diket Plang, urged children to remain curious, believe in themselves, and prioritise their education.

“I therefore encourage you to continue to dream big and strive for your goals. You will outperform your vision and dreams. I can guarantee you that a future packed with numerous opportunities is unfolding,” he said.

Senator Plang also called on parents, teachers, and guardians to serve as positive role models, stressing the importance of shared responsibility in nurturing children.

“Children are the future that we must all build together for the continued existence of humanity; that is why we must not toy with their well-being,” he added.
