Katsina State has conducted entrance examinations for its newly established model secondary schools, as part of efforts to improve education in the region.
A total of 2,172 students from the state’s 34 local government areas took the competitive examination, vying for one of 996 places at the schools in Radda, Jikamshi, and Dumurkul. The examinations follow a recent teachers’ recruitment exercise aimed at boosting the quality of education in the state.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda said the schools would admit students solely on merit. “Admission will be strictly merit-based,” he said, adding that authorities have been instructed to maintain a transparent and fair process.
Students accepted into the model schools will receive government support covering tuition, accommodation, uniforms, laptops, electricity, and internet access. Officials say the initiative aims to raise academic standards and set an example for public education nationwide.
