Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has ordered the recall of students from the College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega, who were suspended after a violent protest in 2024 that forced the school’s closure.
The Provost of the college, Hussaini Aliyu, announced the governor’s directive during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Friday. He explained that the riot was mainly caused by the lack of accreditation for several of the school’s programs, which left students uncertain about their future.
To resolve the issue, Governor Idris has approved ₦60 million to support the accreditation of eight academic programs by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
Aliyu said the suspended students, who were sent home on October 17, 2024, will be recalled immediately after the accreditation process is completed. He praised the governor for his swift intervention, saying it would restore peace and confidence in the institution.
