Kebbi Rep Seeks Creation of New Technical, Entrepreneurship Colleges to Tackle Youth Unemployment

Hon. Ibrahim Mohammed

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ibrahim Mohammed, who represents Birnin Kebbi/Kalgo/Bunza Federal Constituency, has introduced two new bills aimed at establishing educational institutions to reduce youth unemployment and improve technical education in Kebbi State.

The proposed institutions are the Federal College of Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition in Bunza and the National Institute for Technical and Vocational Education in Kalgo. Speaking ahead of a public hearing scheduled for Thursday in the House of Representatives Committee Room, Hon. Mohammed said the move is part of his legislative efforts to create more opportunities for young people and bridge the gap between education and employability.

“These institutions will serve as centres of excellence, training our youth in technology, entrepreneurship, applied sciences, arts, and vocational fields. Kalgo and Bunza will become hubs for innovation and self-reliance—not just for Kebbi, but for the entire country,” he said.

The proposed Federal College of Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition, Bunza, will focus on full-time training in entrepreneurship, teacher education, and professional certification. The programme is designed to equip students with practical skills to start and run their businesses, helping to build a new generation of job creators.

Meanwhile, the National Institute for Technical and Vocational Education in Kalgo will focus on hands-on technical training, innovation, and research that match the needs of today’s industries. The institute will also be responsible for setting national standards for vocational training. Honourable Mohammed explained that both schools will operate under independent governing councils, receive federal funding, and be authorised to issue diplomas, National Certificates in Education (NCEs), and other professional qualifications.

The upcoming public hearing will offer stakeholders—including educators, community leaders, youth groups, civil society organisations, and the general public—an opportunity to contribute to shaping the future of technical and entrepreneurial education in the country.
