Ogun Polytechnic Students Risk Sanctions Over Viral Assault on Woman

Ogun state institue of Technology, Igbesa

Three students of the Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa, may face serious disciplinary action after being arrested for allegedly assaulting a young woman over a boyfriend dispute.

The incident, which occurred off-campus in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, was captured in a disturbing viral video that showed the victim, who is not a student of the school, being flogged multiple times with thick canes by the students, leaving visible injuries on her back, head, and face.

In the video, one of the attackers, identified as Lolade, ignored pleas from bystanders to stop the assault. She reportedly claimed her mother supported her actions and was unbothered about any consequences or who the victim might be dating.

Reacting to the incident on Monday, the school’s Public Relations Officer, Gbadebo Adebayo, said the institution is working closely with the Ogun State Police Command, which has already arrested the suspects. He stated that the school has a zero-tolerance policy towards violence and any form of antisocial behaviour and that if students are found guilty by the police, they will also face internal disciplinary measures as outlined in the school’s Student Code of Conduct. “The management is awaiting the conclusion of the police investigation, and the students involved will also face disciplinary action in line with the Institute’s code of conduct,” Adebayo said. He assured that OGITECH remains committed to maintaining discipline and ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all.
