The Kogi State Government has criticised a protest by members of the Association of People Living with Disabilities (PWDs) at the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, describing it as unnecessary.
In a statement, Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, said the protesters disrupted academic activities by locking the university’s main gate while alleging marginalisation in employment. He dismissed the claims as false, stressing that the institution has already employed several qualified PWDs.
Fanwo gave examples, including appointments in the Chemistry Department, Registry, and Technology Education, to show that CUSTECH hires persons with disabilities based on competence and merit.
He added that while the government respects the rights of all citizens, no group should spread misleading narratives. The state urged calm, assuring that CUSTECH will continue to provide equal opportunities for qualified candidates, regardless of physical ability.
