Provost Hails Federal Government Over Colleges’ Degree Approval

Provost of Kogi State College of Education, Ankpa, Dr Fasagba Femi, has applauded the Federal Government for approving Colleges of Education to run degree programmes alongside the National Certificate in Education (NCE).

Speaking with journalists in Lokoja after receiving an Award of Excellence from the Kogi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Fasagba described the move as a milestone in improving teacher education across the country.

He said the policy would enhance academic standards and create more opportunities for aspiring teachers to advance their qualifications without leaving the college system.

“The importance of Colleges of Education in developing quality teachers cannot be overstated. These institutions are the foundation of the teaching profession in Nigeria,” Fasagba noted.

The provost added that while some Colleges of Education had been selected to pilot the new directive, state governments were already making efforts to key into the programme.

He urged all stakeholders to support the initiative, describing it as a step toward strengthening teacher education and boosting the quality of learning nationwide.
