The management of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, on Monday, September 15, 2025, held an interactive session with representatives of student unions to address concerns about the recent upward review of school fees as students resumed for the First Semester of the 2025/2026 academic session.
The meeting, which took place at the Council Chamber of the Polytechnic’s main campus, also had in attendance representatives of key security agencies in the state, including the Nigeria Police Force (B Division), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Kogi State Vigilante Service.
According to management, the engagement was convened to foster dialogue, clear misconceptions, and ensure a smooth academic start amid rumours of a planned protest allegedly linked to the fee hike.
Officials stressed that while the institution values the sacrifices of students and parents, the adjustment became necessary in order for the institution to sustain quality teaching and services. The student representatives, in turn, pledged to relay the discussions back to their colleagues and maintain peace on campus.
The security agencies assured continued collaboration to prevent breakdown of law and order as the session begins.
