Alhaji Ibrahim Oniye, the First Makama of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Parents Teachers Association (PTA) joined dignitaries and educators in celebrating the 2025 World Teachers’ Day in Ilorin.
The event was attended by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, and the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Muhammad Lawal Olohungbebe, among others.
In his address, the First Makama commended teachers for their dedication in sustaining education standards despite challenges. He urged them to remain steadfast in shaping the nation’s future.
Oniye also lauded the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) for its advocacy and called on the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to push for the implementation of the proposed 70-year retirement age or 40 years of service policy for teachers.
During the occasion, a minute of silence was held in honour of late Chief Adeseko and other departed NUT elders. The First Makama concluded with prayers for peace, unity, and progress in Kwara State and across Nigeria.
