Lafarge Africa has inaugurated two new libraries in its host community of Mfamosing, Cross River State, as part of its corporate social responsibility programme.
The facilities, handed over in July, are located at Obutong Comprehensive High School, Obutong, and Government Secondary School, Akwa Ikot Effanga. Both schools received fully equipped libraries intended to improve access to learning resources. Speaking at the handover, company representative Abiodun Akingbade, standing in for Plant Manager Milad Hanna, said the projects reflected Lafarge’s commitment to education, youth development and community infrastructure. “We embarked on these projects to provide access to tools that empower children in these communities,” he said.
Cross River’s Director of Policy and Higher Education, Dr Moses Agboreyo, who represented the Commissioner for Education, commended the initiative, noting that it complemented the state’s investment in schools. He urged traditional leaders and local authorities to safeguard the facilities to ensure lasting benefit. The company’s Communications and Public Affairs Manager, Inyang Bassey, said the libraries formed part of a broader effort to create “shared value and sustainable futures” in Lafarge’s host communities.
