Lagos State University (LASU)
Lagos State University (LASU) has been rated the best university in West Africa in the latest UI GreenMetric World University Ranking for Sustainability, marking the fourth consecutive year (2022-2025) it has held the title.
The 2025 results also saw LASU rise 39 places globally, from 799th in 2024 to 760th out of 1,745 institutions across 105 countries, reflecting its ongoing commitment to sustainability-driven innovation.
In a statement, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello congratulated the university community on the achievement and acknowledged the Lagos State Government’s support in advancing global sustainability initiatives.
She also praised key contributors, including the Special Ranking Committee led by Prof. Adenike Boyo, the Directorate of Research Management and Innovation under Prof. Adejuwon Adeneye, and the Centre for the Actualisation of Sustainable Development Goals led by Prof. Tayo Ajayi.
Since joining the global ranking platform in 2022, LASU has consistently improved its standing, demonstrating institutional responsibility and a focus on sustainability. The university also holds the distinction of being the most subscribed to university in Nigeria.
