Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), situated in Ikorodu, has rapidly emerged as a beacon of innovation and academic excellence under the stewardship of Vice-Chancellor Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya.
Since his appointment in September 2022, Prof. Odusanya has implemented a strategic six-point IMPACT agenda, focusing on infrastructure, workforce, productivity, academic quality, state alignment, and entrepreneurial partnerships, which positions the university for national and international recognition.
In a significant achievement, LASUSTECH secured rankings in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings across several impact categories, including Quality Education, Zero Hunger, Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
The university’s infrastructure has undergone substantial development, with projects funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), including a central research laboratory, a professorial building, and a university auditorium.
Additionally, the Lagos State government is constructing a 750-capacity auditorium and student arcade, while contributions from the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria and Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila enhance facilities at the Surulere campus.
Academically, LASUSTECH has expanded its offerings to 41 active programmes, with the first cohort expected to graduate in 2026.
The university states entrepreneurship, with students gaining national recognition in competitions such as Hackathon 2025 and NFVCB 2024.
International collaborations have been strengthened through Memoranda of Understanding with institutions like Kumasi Technical University and Akenten Appiah-Menka University in Ghana, facilitating student and staff exchanges, joint research projects, and curriculum development.
Prof. Odusanya has also advocated for increasing admission capacities across Nigerian tertiary institutions, highlighting that in 2023, LASUSTECH received 13,558 applications but could only admit 3,300 students, reflecting a 25.4% acceptance rate.
He spoke on expanding access to higher education to accommodate the growing number of qualified applicants.
In line with global educational trends, Prof. Odusanya encourages universities to embrace Industry 5.0, focusing on people-centric, sustainable, and resilient educational approaches.
He advocates integrating industry into academic curricula, promoting collaborations that enhance practical learning and community impact.
As LASUSTECH continues to evolve, its commitment to academic excellence, infrastructural development, and global partnerships, under the leadership of Prof. Odusanya, positions it as a leading institution in Nigeria’s higher education landscape.
