The Abuja Unity Lions Club has renovated four classroom blocks at Junior Secondary School, Orozo, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to address overcrowding and improve learning conditions.
The intervention, commissioned yesterday, follows a needs assessment that revealed the school’s overstretched facilities. Club President, Grace Oladipo, said many students had been learning under poor conditions, prompting the initiative tagged “Empowering Education.”
“We found too many students and too few classrooms,” Oladipo said. “Education remains one of the most powerful tools to change the world, and we felt compelled to act.”
Alongside the renovation, the club donated textbooks and announced plans to supply chairs and other furniture in the coming weeks. A mental health awareness campaign for schoolchildren is also scheduled to begin next month.
Second Vice District Governor of Lions Clubs International, District 404A2 Nigeria, Charlz Opunsuju, said the project reflects the organisation’s commitment to improving education, health, and welfare across communities.
The school principal, Yusuf Abdullahi, praised the gesture, describing it as a timely intervention that has transformed the school’s learning environment.
Two students, Kemi Olowo and Deborah Anjorin, were also honoured for exemplary conduct during the event.
