MAPOLY Commissions Block-Making Industry, Solar Power System, and Wi-Fi Installation through Special Entrepreneurship Projects
Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, has commissioned a series of student-led entrepreneurship projects to strengthen practical skills and create self-employment opportunities.
The projects, executed through the institution’s Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, include a 5 kVA solar power system, a multi-point Wi-Fi installation, and a concrete block-making facility. They were completed by students during the last academic session, under the supervision of the entrepreneurship directorate and with support from industry experts.
Speaking at the commissioning, the chairman of the governing council, Emeritus Professor Kamaldeen Balogun, said polytechnics in Nigeria had the capacity to drive an entrepreneurship-led economy if adequately supported by government and stakeholders. He said MAPOLY’s approach reflected the National Board for Technical Education’s emphasis on skills acquisition.
Professor Balogun added that the council would continue to support the centre’s production activities, including efforts to produce concrete blocks that can compete with those on the broader market.
The rector, Arc Dr Koye Jolaoso, said the institution planned to expand the scope and quality of the projects through collaboration with other departments, including the School of Mechanical Engineering.
Earlier, the centre’s director, Arc Dr Olabisi Baiyewu, said the initiative was designed to position MAPOLY as a reference point for practical entrepreneurship education and as a potential source of internally generated revenue.
