A lecturer at Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola, Dr Umar Muhammad Modibbo, has brought honour to the university by helping to edit two international academic books on artificial intelligence (AI) and problem-solving.
Dr Modibbo teaches in the Department of Operations Research and also works as the university’s MIS Coordinator. He worked with experts from different countries to publish the two books. The first book examines how artificial intelligence (AI) can assist individuals in making more informed decisions by utilising intelligent data and advanced computer tools. The second book provides a deep examination of how people can utilise AI to solve complex problems through a method known as optimisation. Both books explain smart and modern ways to utilise AI, including deep learning and advanced computer tools. They also demonstrate how these concepts can be applied in real-life scenarios—for example, in managing supply chains, operating factories, and utilising smart devices through the Internet of Things (IoT).
Dr Modibbo worked with three other editors: Dr Irfan Ali, Dr Harish Garg, and Prof. Asaju Bolaji. They said the books are helpful for students and researchers, especially those working in areas where decisions are hard to make or where things are uncertain.
At the book launch, the Vice-Chancellor of MAU, Professor Ibrahim Umar, praised Dr Modibbo for helping the university gain more recognition worldwide. He said this is a significant achievement that shows the high quality of the university’s lecturers. He also requested that the university library obtain several copies of the books so that students and researchers could read and learn from them. The books are now available for use and are expected to help improve teaching, learning, and research at Modibbo Adama University and in other institutions as well.
