MDCN Praises IBBUL, Flags Gaps in Medical Training

Prof. Idris Muhammad of Bayero University Kano

A delegation from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) concluded a pre-clinical accreditation visit to IBBUL’s College of Health Sciences, commending the University’s progress while identifying areas requiring urgent attention.

Team leader Prof. Idris Muhammad of Bayero University, Kano, lauded the Vice-Chancellor for exceptional hospitality. He praised the institution’s commitment to medical education, cleanliness, and investment in critical infrastructure, including the anatomage machine.

However, the MDCN team highlighted gaps needing immediate action: additional microscopes, more tenured staff, enhanced laboratory equipment, a standard animal house, and a dedicated 32-seater bus for the Community Health Department. Professor Muhammad stressed that these requirements are mandatory for accreditation and announced a follow-up visit within six months.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mohammed Salihu Niworu expressed gratitude for the objective assessment and confirmed that the University has begun addressing the recommendations in phases, focusing on infrastructure, staffing, and laboratory enhancements. He reaffirmed IBBUL’s commitment to producing competent, ethical, and community-focused medical professionals.

Registrar Malam Idris Saleh Kusherki thanked the MDCN team and assured full administrative support to implement the recommendations, emphasising the University’s resolve to meet national accreditation standards and strengthen its medical training programs.
