The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, has met with the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) to address pressing issues affecting polytechnic education.
At the Abuja meeting, NAPS, led by its President, Comrade Eshiofune Paul Oghayan, presented a 10-point demand to the federal government. Key among them are full inclusion of polytechnic students in the student federal government loan scheme, reforms to the polytechnic curriculum, increased funding, and an end to the long-standing HND/B.Sc. Discrimination.
The students also opposed converting polytechnics into universities, instead urging system upgrades to strengthen technical education. Other requests include NYSC eligibility for ND part-time graduates and the elevation of the NBTE into a National Commission for Technical Education.
Dr Alausa, alongside top ministry officials, assured that the government remains committed to revamping polytechnic education under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The meeting is seen as a step toward addressing grievances that could lead to nationwide strikes..
