The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Kwara Area Unit, has condemned the alleged denial of a Muslim female student entry into the Federal Staff Secondary School, Adewole, Ilorin, for wearing a hijab.
In a statement signed by its Amir, Adnan Muhammad Nasir, the group described the incident as a violation of the student’s constitutional rights and a disregard of the Supreme Court’s ruling affirming the legality of hijab use in public schools.
Citing the 2022 judgment in Asiyat AbdulKareem & Others v. Lagos State Government, the MSSN said the act amounted to “religious intolerance and abuse of authority,” adding that it was “morally reprehensible and legally indefensible.”
The group called for an immediate investigation and sanctions against those responsible, warning that it would pursue the matter through lawful means.
“The hijab is not a symbol of defiance but a divine injunction protected by law,” the statement read. The Society also urged education authorities at both state and federal levels to ensure Muslim students can learn without fear of discrimination or harassment.
