NANS Celebrates Students’ Day and Calls for Patriotism

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) marked the 2025 International Students’ Day at the University of Abuja, emphasising patriotism and productivity among youths.
The event drew students nationwide and representatives from regional bodies, including the West African Students’ Union and the All-African Students Union.


NANS President Olushola Oladoja led the celebration, themed “Reigniting Patriotism and Productivity Among Nigerian Youths/Students,” complementing the global theme, “Empowering Students to be Agents of Change.”


House Committee Chairman Rt. Hon. Aliyu Mukhtar Betara praised students as the nation’s innovators and future leaders. JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede urged students to remain focused and disciplined, avoiding shortcuts in achieving success.


Dr Mathias Terwase Byuan, NANS patron, donated a new national secretariat to support the association’s operations. At the same time, SSA to the President on Student Engagement, Comrade Sunday Dayo Asefon, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to students’ welfare. Awards were presented to JAMB, NECO, and WAEC, with messages from education stakeholders, including Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite and former NANS leaders.


The event concluded with calls for student unity, academic excellence and strengthened collaboration between the government and the student community.
