Prof Abdullahi Ribadu, NUC Executive Secretary, during FUTA’s 36th convocation
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, through the NUC Executive Secretary, Prof Abdullahi Ribadu, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to revitalising Nigerian universities during FUTA’s 36th convocation on November 15, 2025.
He emphasised improved funding, modern infrastructure, staff and student empowerment, and stronger university-industry linkages to drive national growth.
Tinubu encouraged graduates to leverage entrepreneurial, ICT, and scientific skills to create jobs and contribute to national development. He commended FUTA’s leadership, staff, and students for upholding academic excellence.
Pro-Chancellor Senator Nora Daduut highlighted the impact of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund), noting that about 3,000 students have benefited from it. She urged graduands to apply their training to solve societal challenges.
Vice Chancellor Prof Adenike Oladiji praised FUTA’s resilience and achievements, noting its Top Ten national ranking in the 2025 Times Higher Education listings. FUTA’s Department of Meteorology and Climate Science was reconfirmed as a WMO Regional Training Centre. The university secured international grants totalling £136,511 and TETFund research awards exceeding N341 million.
A total of 3,777 graduands received degrees, including 1,030 postgraduate awards and 2,747 first degrees, with 240 First Class honours. Best student Akindunbi Aduragbemi Isaac called on peers to pursue excellence with perseverance, integrity and creativity.
