NDU on Course to Tackle Nigeria’s Economic Challenges – Vice-Chancellor

Niger Delta University (NDU) is seeking a research partnership with the National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA) to help address Nigeria’s economic challenges.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Allen Agih, who led an NDU delegation to NBRDA headquarters in Abuja, proposed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) covering joint research, capacity building and the commercialisation of innovations. Marking the university’s 25th anniversary, Professor Agih said NDU would strengthen its research focus to better serve the Niger Delta region and contribute to national development. He praised NBRDA’s work in using biotechnology to tackle pressing problems and expressed optimism about the collaboration.

NDU’s Director of Research and Development, Dr Lucky Bebeteidoh, said the partnership would grant the university access to NBRDA’s research centres, including the Bioresources Development Centre in Odi, Bayelsa State. NBRDA Director-General, Professor Abdullahi Mustapha, welcomed the proposal and pledged to assign experts from its technical departments to work with NDU on priority projects. The MoU is expected to be signed soon, paving the way for research that could support innovation, skills development and economic growth.
