The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2025 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE).
Announcing the results at its headquarters, NECO said 1,367,210 candidates registered nationwide, including 1,622 with special needs.
A total of 818,492 candidates, representing 60.26%, obtained five credits, including Mathematics and English – the minimum requirement for admission into most tertiary institutions. Another 1,144,496 candidates, or 84.26%, secured five credits and above, irrespective of the two core subjects.
NECO described the outcome as evidence of improved performance compared with previous years. Officials also highlighted measures taken to support visually impaired, hearing impaired and physically challenged candidates.
However, the council said it withheld the results of 599 students from eight schools in Lamorde Local Government Area of Adamawa State over alleged malpractice. It stressed that only candidates and schools found guilty would have their results cancelled.
Education stakeholders welcomed the results, noting the higher pass rate in English and Mathematics. They urged the government to strengthen funding for schools and tighten measures against malpractice.
NECO stated that the results reflected progress in teaching standards and student preparation nationwide.
