Niger Denies Withholding Milo Basketball Funds

The Niger State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has denied claims that it withheld funds intended for the state’s basketball team to attend the Nestle Milo Basketball Championship in Lagos. Commissioner Hadiza Asabe Mohammed stated on Tuesday that the reports were false and misleading. She clarified that although Governor Umaru Bago had approved the team’s sponsorship, the money had not been released for use.

Dr Mohammed also explained that Nestle Milo, the event’s organiser, provided feeding, accommodation, and flight tickets for all teams, including Niger State’s. The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has established a committee to investigate the issue and has promised that anyone found to be spreading false information or mismanaging funds intended for the championship will be held accountable under the law. The Commissioner urged the public to ignore the rumours and assured that the Ministry remains committed to supporting sports and education in the state with complete transparency and accountability.
