The Niger State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has denied claims that it withheld money meant for the state’s basketball team to attend the Nestle Milo Basketball Championship in Lagos. Commissioner Hadiza Asabe Mohammed said the accusations were false and misleading. She explained that while Governor Umaru Bago approved the team’s sponsorship budget, the money was not released on time. She also said that the championship organisers, Nestle Milo, had already covered key expenses, such as feeding, accommodation, and flight tickets, for all teams, including Niger’s.
The Ministry stated that it remains committed to transparency and has established a committee to investigate the issue. Anyone found guilty of spreading false news or mismanaging resources will face consequences. The Ministry urged the public to disregard any misinformation or attempts to tarnish its reputation, and assured them that it would continue to support education and sports development across Niger State.
