Pupils at Central Primary School, Kaffin Koro, in Paikoro Local Government Area of Niger State, continue to sit on bare floors under broken ceilings despite government claims that education is a top priority.
The school, which serves hundreds of children, has deteriorated into unsafe conditions due to the state’s neglect of public education.
This comes despite the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) releasing ₦121 billion to 27 states, including Niger, and the government’s insistence that 70% of its budget is committed to education and health.
Residents and education advocates argue the situation is a clear sign of misplaced priorities by the administration of Governor Umaru Bago, who has allocated ₦3.02 billion to sponsor 357 party loyalists on Hajj.
