Nigerian scholar Adetomiwa Adesokan has chosen the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) for his fully funded PhD in Economics, after receiving offers from both UNR and the University of Texas at Dallas.
Adesokan, who has a solid background in economics and research, said he chose UNR because of its strong focus on environmental and development economics. Explaining further, he said the programme aligns with his passion for addressing global challenges, such as climate change, sustainable growth, and inclusive development.
His earlier research on carbon emissions and economic growth showed how economics can provide answers to real-life problems. Aside from his academic pursuits, Adesokan is also passionate about mentoring and raising the next generation of leaders. He does this through his volunteer work and various community projects. He noted that these experiences have helped him build leadership skills.
At UNR, he plans to study how policies can drive sustainable development while also protecting vulnerable groups. He believes sound, evidence-based research should guide decisions that balance growth with environmental care.
