The Ogbomoso Recreation Club (ORC) has called on Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to step in and resolve the prolonged strike by doctors at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso.
In a letter signed by its leaders, Dr Akin Oladeji-Johnbrown and Professor Atiba Adeniran, the club said the strike, now over two months old, has crippled healthcare services and disrupted medical students’ training for more than four months.
The doctors, under the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), initiated the strike due to concerns over poor funding and salary disparities. According to ORC, LAUTECH doctors earn less than their counterparts in other Oyo State hospitals despite a government circular approving a new salary scale. Other grievances include unpaid allowances and the hospital’s inability to attract new specialists.
ORC urged Governor Makinde to urgently address the issues, warning that continued delay would worsen healthcare delivery in Ogbomoso and stall the future of young medical trainees.
