Nigerian Stock Exchange Wins Education CSR Award

The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) has received the 2018 “CSR in Education” award from the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) for its support of basic education in conflict-affected Borno State.

LCCI’s Director of Advocacy and Research, Dr Vincent Nwani, said the annual awards recognise organisations demonstrating best business practices, innovation, sustainability and positive social impact. He described the selection as “painstaking” and informed by market intelligence and industry feedback. NSE Chief Executive Oscar Onyema said the award reflected the Exchange’s commitment to education as a tool for development, citing its intervention for internally displaced children in the North-East.

In 2017, the NSE funded and built the Maisandari Alamderi Model Nursery and Primary School in Maiduguri, providing classrooms, furniture, sanitation and potable water. The school, commissioned by Governor Kashim Shettima in October 2017, now has 210 pupils, including 89 girls, and can accommodate up to 310. The NSE will fund the school’s operations for three years in partnership with Bridge Academies and the Borno State Universal Basic Education Board to ensure sustainability.
