Nile University of Nigeria has announced that three of its academics have been listed among the world’s top two per cent of scientists in the latest global ranking by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier Data Repository.
The honourees are Professor Menizibeya Welcome Osain, Head of the Department of Human Physiology; Dr Adekunle Adeleke, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering; and Dr Timothy O. Iyendo of the Department of Architecture.
The Stanford–Elsevier database identifies the top 100,000 scientists globally by a composite citation score, or the top 2% within each subfield. It uses standardised citation data, h-index, co-authorship-adjusted scores, and field-specific percentiles across 22 disciplines and 174 subfields.
Nile University stated that the recognition reflects the scholars’ record of high-impact research publications that advance knowledge and address real-world challenges, including those linked to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
The institution described the achievement as a milestone that underscores its commitment to academic and research excellence, commending the awardees for bringing international visibility to the university.
The latest update of the ranking covers citations up to the end of 2024, using Scopus author profiles, and is regarded as one of the most authoritative global benchmarks of research impact.
