Nile University VC Lauded as AAPU President Calls for Stronger Inter-University Collaboration

The President of the Association of African Private Universities (AAPU), Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, has lauded the Vice Chancellor of Nile University, Professor Dilli Dogo, for his efforts in advancing the quality of education at the institution.

Professor Gwarzo made the commendation during a courtesy visit to the university in Abuja, where he called on African universities to move beyond operating in silos and to foster stronger inter-institutional collaboration across the continent.

He emphasised that cooperation was essential for improving educational systems and addressing broader socio-economic challenges facing African nations. He noted that while individual universities have recorded notable progress, the absence of synergy continues to limit their collective impact.

Professor Gwarzo praised Professor Dogo’s leadership, describing the institution’s transformation under a Nigerian head as both inspiring and exemplary. “Seeing a Nigerian Vice Chancellor elevate this university to such a level is both inspiring and commendable,” he remarked. “What I saw here shows that real work is being done; this is not just about increasing enrolment or expanding buildings. It is about delivering education that prepares students to solve problems.”

He also expressed concern over persistent continental challenges such as inadequate healthcare systems, youth unemployment, and poor infrastructure, arguing that universities must play a pivotal role in addressing these issues. However, he cautioned that such influence would remain limited unless institutions began to exchange ideas, research, and pedagogical approaches actively.

“When we do not talk to each other, we all fall behind,” he said. “We need to start working across borders. That is how we will develop local solutions that work.”

In his response, Professor Dogo reiterated Nile University’s commitment to collaborative engagements but stressed that partnerships must yield tangible outcomes. He affirmed that the institution remains open to any alliance that enhances student learning, research capacity, or community engagement.
