NMA Rules Out Strike Disruption in Enugu

The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has stated that it will not disrupt healthcare services in Enugu State despite the ongoing strike by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) over remuneration issues.
Addressing a press conference to mark the 2025 Physicians’ Week in Enugu on Monday, Dr Sunday Okafor, Chairman of the NMA in the state, stated that doctors under Governor Peter Mbah’s administration are among the best-paid in the country.
He commended Mbah for prioritising the welfare of medical personnel and investing in healthcare infrastructure, including the construction of Type II primary health centres across the state’s 260 wards.
“It is on record that Enugu healthcare workers are among the highest paid in Nigeria. As a parent body, we cannot disrupt health services where the government is performing well,” Okafor said. He urged the Federal Government to address the concerns of striking doctors at federal institutions to prevent further service disruption.
Okafor added that the state NMA remains committed to partnering with the government to strengthen healthcare delivery and promote patient-centred policies.
