A Nigerian nurse, Dr Ngozi Philomena Anonyuo, has completed a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree at Walden University in the United States, raising concerns about the limited opportunities for advanced nursing education in Nigeria.
Dr Anonyuo said her research focused on improving diabetes care among Black American patients by enhancing nurses’ skills through targeted training programmes. She noted that the project led to measurable improvements in patient outcomes.
Speaking on the state of Nigeria’s health sector, she called for increased investment in primary healthcare, staff development, and modern facilities to reduce medical tourism and improve local service delivery.
She also urged the government to meet the Abuja Declaration’s recommendation of allocating 15% of the national budget to health.
