A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member has trained over 40 students of Government Secondary School, Ovom, Yenegoa, Bayelsa State, in basic first aid and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Community Development Service exercise, held in partnership with the Nigerian Red Cross Society and the Nigeria Network of NGOs, focused on emergency response, basic life support, and accident management both in school and the wider community.
Speaking after the event, Blessing Nwokeoma, who led the training, said the initiative aimed to equip teenagers with life-saving skills while promoting SDG principles on health, quality education, and partnerships.
Oyebisi B. Oluseyi, Executive Director of the Nigeria Network of NGOs, praised the initiative, noting that it reinforced active citizenship and expanded the pool of Nigerians skilled in emergency response.
Mrs Jessy Ovuru, Vice Principal (Admin) of the school, welcomed the programme, saying the training made the school feel recognised among other institutions in the state and prayed for Nwokeoma’s continued success.
Certificates were awarded to students at the conclusion of the training, marking the completion of the one-day programme designed to foster skills-based volunteering and community awareness among youths in Bayelsa.
