The Ogun State Government, through the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has successfully trained and inducted 200 newly appointed headteachers across the state.
The event, held at the NUT Hall in Kuto, Abeokuta, was opened by the State Head of Service, Mr Kehinde Onasanya, who urged the inductees to approach their new roles with a sense of responsibility and dedication.
The one-day capacity-building seminar theme was “Effective School Management as a Catalyst for Qualitative Basic Education.”
Represented by Engr. Olufisan Osiyale, the Permanent Secretary of the Bureau of Local Government Pension, Onasanya, spoke on quality leadership in education and the critical role headteachers play in shaping their pupils’ futures. He encouraged them to be proactive and creative and to collaborate with parents and guardians for the success of their schools.
Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, noted the event’s significance, urging the new headteachers to view their appointments as an opportunity to serve and demonstrate their skills in managing educational institutions.
Dr. Mikhail Lawal, the Board Secretary of SUBEB, reminded the inductees that their roles extend beyond administrative duties. They are expected to lead by example and influence education policy at the grassroots level.
During the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko, spoke on the need for continuous monitoring and evaluation to ensure the success of learning outcomes in schools.
In her address, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, highlighted the necessity of intense collaboration with stakeholders to ensure the delivery of quality education in Ogun State.
She urged the headteachers to build strong foundations, maintain transparency, and set clear goals for their schools.
Representing the inductees, Mr Olaniyi Akinde and Mrs Olubusola Komolafe expressed their gratitude to the state government for prioritising their professional development and promised to uphold their responsibilities with excellence.
