Ogun TESCOM to Launch Whistle-Blowing Strategy in Schools

The Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has announced plans to introduce a whistle-blowing initiative aimed at enhancing teaching standards and addressing misconduct in public secondary schools across the state. The Chairman of the Commission, Apostle Abiodun Sanyaolu, revealed this during a familiarisation tour of schools in the Ijebu, Remo, Yewa, and Egba divisions, alongside board members, permanent secretary, principals-general, and senior TESCOM officials.

Sanyaolu explained that the initiative will serve as a confidential channel for teachers and non-teaching staff to report inappropriate or harmful activities within schools. “We are strengthening two-way communication between TESCOM and school personnel,” he said, assuring that all reports would be treated with strict confidentiality.

He also disclosed that dedicated phone numbers will soon be released for the public to make confidential reports, while warning against the dissemination of false information or misuse of the platform. “This strategy is one of many reforms we are introducing to improve the overall quality of the teaching workforce and support the Ogun State Government’s education policy,” he added.

The TESCOM chairman also encouraged school staff to maintain high standards of professionalism, urging them to be punctual, dress decently, and prioritise moral instruction alongside academic learning. Principals and school administrators at Itori Comprehensive High School (Senior), Yewa (Egbado) College (Junior), and Odogbolu Comprehensive High School (Senior) praised the initiative and pledged their support to TESCOM’s efforts.

Other schools visited during the monitoring exercise include Ajagbe High School, Iperu Remo; Isanbi High School, Ilishan; Iganmode Grammar School, Ota; Nawar-ud-deen Grammar School, Obantoko; Baptist Boys High School, Saje; and Gateway Secondary School, Ita-Iyalode, Abeokuta, among others. The initiative is expected to create a more transparent, accountable, and morally sound environment in Ogun State’s secondary schools.
